Cinderella - Blackface? Coalface? Something New?

Cinderella, the one in a million budgie!

Cinderella, the one in a million budgie!

This lovely budgie is something a bit different! As you can see she has a lot more barring than usual, it also extends under her beak and through the area where her spots are. The white speckles on her head are different from normal as well... could she be mottled also!

It is thought that she is not a blackface as she lacks the barring down the body, but maybe she is something new.... wouldn't that be exciting!

Have you tried breeding her? If so, did any of the babies have the same mutation?

She's very cute. You certainly own a very rare and unusual budgie. I've never seen one of them before. She is very adorable, you're lucky to have a budgie like that! :)

Hi, I have a green male with the same marking but without the white specs. I am looking to get a female with the same black markings to pair in the hope to increase the black body colour. ZA

Hi there anonymous, I would love to see photos of you budgie! The easiest way would be to upload them through the Budgie Pictures page, if you do not want them on the site that is fine but I would love to see them.

coal face
by: Didier Mervilde

Hi,

I saw your article about coalface. I made an article about Blackfaced birds years ago when I visit a Dutch breeder and invited Mr.Dirk Van den Abeele to take photos for me. Now I am working on an article about Coalface and I want to ask you if I can use this picture in my article.Of course copyright will be for you
If you have more pictures about this bird or other you can always send them

Regards,

Didier Mervilde

black face
by: Dirk Van den Abeele

About five teen years ago I visited a breeder in the Netherlands who had lots of these "melanistic" budgies. I don't know if he still has them. I took lots of pictures and some of them are published in Terry Martin's book.
You can find an article on this mutation on www.mutavi.info

All the best

Amazing!
by: Denise

The markings on her are amazing! Do you have any more photos, and are you any closer to figuring out what type she is? She does look like a Blackface and a Mottled mix-has she changed any?
